Governor of Maryland visits Bosnia and Herzegovina

Martin O’Malley, Governor of the State of Maryland, and Brigadier General James Adkins, Adjutant General of the Maryland National Guard visited Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 7-8, 2009 and met with members of the BiH Presidency, Nebojsa Radmanovic, Zeljko Komsic and Haris Silajdzic, as well as, with BiH Minister of Defense Selmo Cikotic.  During the visit, they discussed the current partnership between BiH and the state of Maryland and to continue to work on  BiH defense reform and NATO accession.  Additionally, Governor O’Malley and Brigadier General Adkins discussed ways to expand the partnership into the civil sector including such areas as civil protection, education, health care, and business.  Governor O’Malley also attended a lunch with senior executives of several American companies in Bosnia. The State Partnership Program between BiH and Maryland began in 2003 as a military to military exchange program to enhance interoperability and best practices between the two forces.
