US Congressional Delegation in Srebrenica and Sarajevo

July 16, 2009

US Congressional delegation - Representative Russ Carnahan (D-MO), Representative Mike Turner (R-OH) and Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) - visited Bosnia and Herzegovina from July 11 to 13, 2009. On Saturday, July 11, United States Ambassador to BiH Charles English and the Congressional delegation, led by Congressman Carnahan attend the 14th Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide. The Congressional delegation, on behalf of the US people, paid respects to the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide and once again demonstrated the continued US support and commitment to Srebrenica and all of its citizens. US Ambassador Charles English and Congressman Carnahan, on behalf of the delegation, laid a wreath at the Memorial Stone.

Congressmen Carnahan said that it was an honor for him and his colleagues to be in Srebrenica on that day, to pay respects to the horrible genocide that occurred here, but also to see the hope that was coming here. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey noted that July 11, 14 years after the genocide, is the reminder to all of us, here, in this wonderful nation, and all over the world that we must stop destroying each other.

On July 12, 2009, US Congressional delegation had a series of meetings including the meeting with the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, leaders of political parties of the country, university students, as well as High Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
