Ambassador English meets Mrs. Esma Palic

August 12, 2009

United States Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Charles L. English met August 11 at his residence in Sarajevo with Mrs. Esma Palic, the widow of Colonel Avdo Palic, the former ARBiH commander of Zepa enclave.  Ambassador English conveyed to Mrs. Palic the deep sympathy of the people of the United States of America.  He expressed his personal appreciation for her fortitude and determination throughout the long and painful process of finding and identifying her husband’s remains.

Ambassador English expressed the belief that the lack of information provided by the persons who last saw Colonel Palic was a clear factor in delaying the identification of the remains.  He stressed the need for all individuals with knowledge of the fate of those still missing to bring forward the information to help ease the suffering of those who have lost loved ones. He expressed the full support of the United States to the efforts of the ICMP and Missing Persons Institute of BiH to speed up the process of identification. In all cases, the Ambassador stressed the importance of bringing the perpetrators of war crimes to justice.
