Deputy Secretary James B. Steinberg talks to Sarajevo high school students

October 23, 2009

Deputy Secretary of State James B. Steinberg, during his busy schedule in Bosnia and Herzegovina, had the pleasure to meet and talk to 55 students from the Sarajevo High School "Prva gimnazija (First Gymansium)". While talking to Mr. Steinberg, students raised concern about their political leaders and the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They expressed fear that the country might break apart and that the future of BiH and its youth is not too bright. Mr. Steinberg assured students that the United States and its international partners are jointly working on putting BiH on the accelerated path to the NATO and European Union. He stressed that Bosnia's leaders should use the momentum of a serious Western engagement to agree on the key issues that will speed up the country's integration into the European Union and NATO. At the end of a very lively discussion, Mr. Steinberg expressed hope that in ten years from now he would meet the new generation of BiH leaders oriented towards better future and progress of BiH, some of which could be from the First Gymansium.
