American Reference Center

General Information

The American Reference Center (ARC) is an integral part of OPA (Office of Public Affairs) Sarajevo and the American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ARC provides current, comprehensive information about the United States, its institutions, its foreign and domestic policies, its social and political processes, legislative developments, economic issues, history and culture.

The ARC is equipped with powerful electronic resources. The ARC has several commercial on-line databases available, including GaleNet, First Search, Lexis-Nexis, Stat-USA, GPO Access, and PDQ. In addition, the ARC subscribes to specialized CD-ROMs. Links to other sources of information about the USA are available as well.

The reference collection is non-circulating. The collection consist of volumes, including encyclopedias, handbooks, directories, and over-views in fields such as government, politics, history, economics, education and sociology. The ARC also regularly receives periodicals in related subject areas.

The resources of the ARC are intended to meet the needs of government officials, journalists, scholars and other citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina with professional level interest in the United States. The ARC staff will assist you with any reasearch need and will conduct on-line searches in the World Wide Web and in the commercial databases, CD ROM databases and reference books. The ARC functions every day from 08:00 until 17:00, except on Saturdays, Sundays, American and BiH holidays. The center is accessible by appointments via:
