USS Mitscher to Visit Bosnia and Herzegovina

The USS Mitscher (DDG 57) will make its first visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the commemoration of the Dayton Peace Agreement. Mitscher will arrive in Neum on Saturday, October 15, 2005 and remain over the weekend.
The visit will include numerous events and interaction between crewmembers of USS Mitscher, the U.S. Embassy, and representatives of the BiH and local governments.
U.S. ships frequently make port visits when on overseas deployment. These visits promote friendship, understanding and cooperation between the U.S. and other nations.
The Norfolk, Virginia homeported USS Mitscher (DDG 57) is an Arleigh Burke class destroyer that was commissioned on December 10th, 1994. The ship has made three Mediterranean deployments and participated in numerous Caribbean exercises.
Commander Stephen Evans of Beaufort, South Carolina is the ship’s commanding officer.
The following events will be opened for the media:
Saturday, October 15
Arrival of the ship in Neum (photo-op only)
Time: 11:00
NOTE: Please contact the U. S. embassy public affairs office to coordinate coverage of the ships arrival. Photographers and cameraman are welcome to film her arrival from the shore.
Sunday, October 16
- Reception in the honor of the USS Mitscher visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Time: 13:00.
Venue: Hotel Stella, Neum
Media are welcome to cover the beginning of the reception - Tour of the ship and media availability on board the ship.
- U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Douglas McElhaney and Admiral Harry Ulrich, Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples will be available for comments and to take questions.
Time: 14:00 - 16:00
